Diagnosis - Treatment - Prevention

Identifying the Root Cause

Dr. Strebel is a knowledgeable Chiropractor with the goal of identifying the root cause of your back pain, headaches and daily discomforts.  Understanding your triggers, how your body holds tension, and responds to various spinal adjusting techniques is key. After orthopedic and neurological examination, we can discuss your differential diagnosis or the potential causes of your condition.  Occasionally, more information is required.  This may include requesting previous records, diagnostic laboratory results or radiologic imaging. Having all the puzzle pieces facilitates faster response to treatment, and often a picture is worth a thousand words.

Treatments and Techniques

Each chiropractor uses specific adjusting techniques that they have crafted and mastered, yet each spine is uniquely different and challenging.  Here are some of the techniques we utilize in our clinic:

  • Diversified (Manual)-Adjustments performed by hand without instrument.  High velocity and low amplitude adjustments within the anatomical integrity of the joint.  This is the "old school" adjusting technique that began it all and is often accompanied by a "click or pop" sound.  To many this is the only way to be adjusted and has been described as "refreshing and satisfying" but to the endorphin release accompanied with this technique. This is not recommended to be used for all patients and presentations complicated by health history, prior diagnosis or surgically altered/repaired regions.
  • Thompson Drop- Specialized Pneumatic drops built into the adjusting table which allow lighter forces and the assistance of gravity to facilitate the necessary joint manipulation.
  • Cox Flexion-Distraction- The lower half of the table supporting your hips, pelvis, and legs breaks away allowing specific contact to the lower lumbar vertebra so as to isolate and mobilize restricted or degenerative joints without a forceful thrust on ones side.  This technique is the gold standard for treatment of disc bulges and herniations which can send pain traveling into the buttocks or further down the leg(s). More gentle and effective for acute lower back pain.
  • Instrument- Instrument adjusting uses chiropractic tools that are either pneumatic or electronic.  These tools achieve the result of specific adjustment without the pressure of hand contact or the Clicking/Popping usually associated with a manual adjustment. The next best thing for patients with anxiety, osteoporosis, or other health concerns that would otherwise disqualify them from treatment.  In our office we use the Activator and Arthrostim tools.
  • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)- Many familiar with Graston or Guasha may recall that this technique targets soft tissue adhesions in the muscle, tendons, and Facia(connective tissue dividing muscle groups).  This technique results in slight petechiae or bruising from scraping a tool usually made of bone or metal, across the treatment area.  This increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage to the injured or knotted area.

Wellness Care

Restored health and balance are achieved once we have determined which technique works best for your body and it's unique muscular tone, curvatures and posture. Once we have identified your triggers and are out of pain, we maintain these results by determining the appropriate intervals between wellness treatments.  This means you can enjoy your life with less accumulative stress and tension.  This is what we call "Wellness" or "Maintenance Care". After all, It is easier to stay well than to get well!
